Supreme Court anti-fracking case

Law for Change is supporting anti-fracking campaigners’ in their appeal to the Supreme Court over the lawfulness of the decision to allow oil wells to be drilled in Surrey Hills. It is estimated the development could lead to 10 million tonnes of C0² released into the atmosphere, with planning permission granted for 20 years of production taking us perilously close to the UK’s net zero target of 2050. The claim challenges the lawfulness of the Council’s grant of planning permission, arguing that existing environmental impact regulations legally require the Council to assess the carbon emissions released from the end use of the oil.
